Sewing Lessons in Airdrie

Introducing two classes for fall 2015! 

 

Class 1 - Basic Sewing Skills
1. Introduction to your machine.  Threading, bobbin winding, tension, maintenance and troubleshooting
2. Paper sewing.  Using paper templates to get used to speed and turn corners with your machine.
3. Seam types and when to use them.  Plain, French, flat-felled.
4. Hemming.  Plain hems, rolled hems, blind hems.
5. Binding, pockets, buttons, snaps, and piping.
6. Introduction to commercial patterns.
7. Zippers.  
8. Tote bag construction.

Basic Sewing Skills (kids - home school, age 10 and up)

Class 2 - Commercial Pattern Sewing

 

*participants will select a pattern and fabric to complete their project at the beginning of the course.  Not recommended for beginners, but could be taken in conjunction with the Basic Sewing Skills class

 

1. Introduction to commercial patterns

2. Selecting the correct size and altering a pattern to fit.

3. Proper pattern layout and cutting

4. Initial pinning and construction.  Tips for making garment construction faster and more professional looking.

5. Pressing, pressing, pressing...

6. Interim fittings and alterations

7. Hand finishing for a professional look.
